Debby became a tropical storm in the Atlantic Ocean as of 5 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was located about 1,175 miles west-northwest of the Azores, moving north-northeast at 9 mph.
Debby formed on Tuesday, becoming the fourth named storm of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Debby does not pose any threat to land. It is expected to be a short-lived storm and dissipate quickly, as early as Thursday afternoon, according to the National Hurricane Center.
“This is the type of named storm we like to see, it’s going to be a forgettable one,” Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Ian Oliver said. “It’s a system that has some tropical characteristics but this thing is out in the middle of the Atlantic.”
“This general motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected during the next 24 hours,” the NHC said in its 11 a.m. advisory. “A gradual turn to the northeast is anticipated thereafter.”
