TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Two hundred people lined up Saturday morning at the Greater Bethel M. B. Church in downtown Tampa to get help during the MLK Day of Service.
Homeless veterans and their families got advice and resources for education, healthcare, and food, just to name a few. Almost 20 organizations showed up to contribute. Mayor Bob Buckhorn spoke at the beginning encouraging people that “better days are coming.”
“There are a lot of homeless people in Tampa,” Monte Reinhardt, who lives at Metropolitan Ministries, told News Channel 8. “It’s just good to know what resources are out there and that someone wants to help.”
Outside of the church sat a rack of suits, to help the unemployed with a potential job interview. Martin Luther King Day isn’t until Jan 18 and MLK Service Day is just one of many activities over the next month.
“I think it’s going to make a big difference,” Reinhardt said. “It’s just knowing there’s something out there for us and there’s hope.”
