TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Many Tampa Bay residents drive I-4 daily, as the interstate is the only major east-west corridor is between Tampa and Orlando. But new numbers show it may be the most deadly interstate in America, according to federal fatal crash statistics between 2010 and 2015.
A company called Everquote calculated the number of fatal crashes per mile, and determined I-4 is America’s deadliest stretch of highway.
I-4 is 132 miles long and there have been 1.4 traffic deaths per mile in the past six years.
The survey shows that distracted driving is the largest factor in fatal crashes with cell-phone use ranking as the top distraction.
