DALLAS, TX (WCMH) — A mother in Dallas reportedly took matters into her own hands when a carjacker tried to take off in her SUV with her two children in the backseat.

The woman had gone into a gas station to pay late Wednesday night when the man jumped behind the wheel, the CBS station in Dallas-Fort Worth reported.

The children in the vehicle were ages 2 and 4, the station reported.

The woman raced over and managed to get back into the SUV. When the man refused to stop the vehicle, the woman grabbed a gun from the glove box and shot him in the head.

The man crashed into a pole and was taken to a hospital.

NBCDFW reports the suspect, Ricky Wright, 36, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

“I wish I would’ve killed you, if I didn’t already,” the woman told CBS DFW.

The woman and her two kids were not hurt.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
