UPDATE: Allison Faye Huffman, the suspect in this case, has been detained in St. Petersburg. The investigation is ongoing.

Huffman was arrested at The Promenade Apartments at 540 Carillon Pkwy. She visited a friend. That friend called police, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

PREVIOUS STORY: TOWN ‘N’ COUNTRY, FL(WFLA)–Posting a quick picture snapped behind the wheel on Facebook last November with the caption, “Maybe this is why I’ve been accused of not concentrating on driving while driving…Haha” 36-year-old Allison Faye Huffman of Riverview has a lot more on her record than just selfies on social media.

Huffman’s driving record reveals at least three drunk driving arrests from 2002 to 2014, in addition to violations for speeding, careless driving and driving with a suspended license.RELATED: Cops search for woman suspected in deadly hit-and-run on Howard Frankland

Huffman is now the prime suspect in a hit and run crash early Monday morning that left 44-year-old tow truck driver Roger Perez dead.

The news infuriates Lou Morales, the owner of Lou’s Total Car Care, who remembers Perez as the ideal employee.

“He was one of those individuals that are very few and far apart…always polite, always courteous. You talk about a guy that would come to work 15 minutes early, this man comes to work 2 hours early, just to see if he can help out,” said Morales.

Driving back from another towing call early Monday morning, Morales said Perez wasn’t even assigned to tow that car on the Howard Frankland Bridge when he was hit.

“He was just pulling over because he saw somebody stuck on the road,” said Morales.

Florida Highway Patrol reports detail Perez was thrown in the air by the sheer impact of that crash and died at the scene.RELATED: Florida Highway Patrol says there’s an alarming spike in hit-and-run crashes

The hit and run crash strikes a chord with other tow truck drivers in the area, who stopped by Lou’s Total Car Care after hearing the horrific news.

“People don’t listen. It’s like they don’t care. They don’t stay away from the truck, they just drive like crazy,” said Teofilo Olivero of Bella Towing.

Tampa Bay’s latest fatal hit and run crash falls on the first day of the Florida Highway Patrol’s “Hit and Run Awareness Week”.
