TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards were insane! News Channel 8’s Lila Gross is dishing out her favorite moments and breaking down all the winners for you.
To start off the night, some of our favorite artists walked the red carpet. It’s obviously one of the most dazzling parts of the night, and blue gowns seemed to be the trend this year. At least it was for Beyonce and Nicki Minaj.
The ladies of Fifth Harmony rocked all black dresses together and they looked phenomenal.
Video Vanguard honoree, Rihanna, gave us one of the best throwback performances ever. With her and her crew in head-to-toe all white outfits, she rocked the stage for the first performance of the night. She returned to the stage an additional three times to perform and I couldn’t get enough!
“She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22-years-old,” Drake said when awarding Rihanna with the Vanguard Award.
And Rihanna made her acceptance speech in awe and said, “I can’t believe I’m receiving a Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at age 28.”
Kanye’s speech was obviously one for the books. Kanye West called out Taylor Swift and Amber Rose in his wide-ranging speech as an introduction to his new music video, which was jaw-dropping per usual.
Pop Queen Britney Spears returned to the VMA stage for the first time in nine years. She rocked it better than ever and got extremely close to G-Eazy during her performance.
But, Brit and G-Eazy weren’t the only duo to get uncomfortably close during their performances. The Chainsmokers and Hasley put on an incredible show with the singers faces close enough together to kiss.
Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj also nailed their performance and got a little workout in at the same time.
Jimmy Fallon presented the Video of the Year award and he was dressed as Ryan Lochte.
“I couldn’t tell you if there was a gun to my head…” Fallon said about picking a winner, obviously referring to Ryan Lochte’s unfortunate incident in Rio de Janeiro. Awkward.
The “Final Five” USA Women’s Gymnastics team took the stage to announce Beyonce as the winner for Best Female Video, just one of her many moon man awards for the night.
The commentary was abundant from all the comedians who served as masters of ceremonies throughout the night. MTV chose to not select a host for the 2016 VMAs after ratings last year fell drastically with Miley Cyrus as the host.
Here are all of the 2016 MTV Video Music Award Moon Man winners.
