A South Carolina man who beat cancer said he was hurt when a restaurant told him to cover up his face before he could eat the food he’d already purchased.
Cancer survivor Kirby Evans says that he’s a regular at the Forks Pit Stop in Walterboro.
But when he went to grab something to eat last Monday, he was caught off guard.
“I felt somebody reach up and grab me like this and jerk me in her office,” Evans told WCSC.
Evans, who lost an eye and his nose to cancer, says an employee told him if he wanted to eat at the store, he’d have to cover his face.
“It hurt deep inside.”
Evans said that pain was a new feeling — something that he won’t forget.
“I had never been treated like that. Never.”
Evans’ daughter Brandy posted about what happened on Facebook.
More than 8,000 people have now shared that post.
But Evans isn’t as focused on that as much as he is on how supportive the rest of his community has been.
“I’m telling you what, I didn’t know there was that many people that cared but there are. They’re out there everywhere.”
The owner of forks could not be reached for comment but workers said she hasn’t been to work since the alleged incident.
