LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — A Polk County man is turning a painful loss into something positive.
Brian Alvear’s younger sister Amanda Alvear, of Davenport, passed away in the Orlando massacre. Since her death, Brian is hugging everyone including friends, family, the deputies who helped the night of the massacre and even random strangers.
He believes he is healing his heartache with hugs. He is asking everyone to hug in memory of his sister.
On Tuesday, Amanda Alverar was laid to rest.
“I probably hugged 700 people,” said Brian Alvear who wants to spread love and hugs instead of hate.
Alvear is a Karaoke DJ at the Club Main Street, a gay bar in Lakeland. Wednesday night he plans to host “Hug-A-Palooza” in remembrance of his sister and all of the Orlando massacre victims.RELATED: Two young Polk County women among the slain in Orlando
