NORTH PORT, FL (WFLA) – More than 1700 homes were without water for several hours in North Port Saturday while the utility crews worked to fix a major water main break.
The water main about 5 feet deep in the ground broke early in the morning. The pipe is about 10 years old. According to the city officials, the break caused a disruption of service to the Island Walk and Gran Paradiso communities, a total of around 1720 homes.
The water service was restored around 4 p.m. Saturday
A boil water advisory is now in effect as a precaution, the city officials said. The staff will take Water Bacteria (Bac-T) samples Saturday and Sunday.
The residents have been notified, the city officials said.
