TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission crews confirmed they located a body in the area where they were searching for a missing man.

Crews searched Friday afternoon and evening for the missing boater. FWC was in charge of the search. Crews responded Friday afternoon to an area north of the boat ramp on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

Officials said a male was in a rental boat with his fiance when the boat hit a sandbar. He jumped off the boat to push it off the sandbar but went underwater, a police department spokesperson said.

The boat drifted as the man attempted to remain afloat, resurfacing twice. When he did not resurface a third time, his fiance called 911. Tampa Police Department Marine and Dive units, Tampa Fire Rescue crews, Coast Guard crews, and Clearwater Police Marine units also responded.

Officials said the search will continue through the night.

FWC said they located the body Saturday morning but they didn’t release the identity and didn’t specify that the body is of the missing man.
