BOCA GRANDE, Fla. (WFLA) There’s something stirring in the waters off Boca Grande, Florida. The fins periodically slicing the surface of the water belong to sharks.

Boca Grande has been named by USA Today as one of the top 10 places in the world to spot sharks from shore.  Lifetime Boca Grande residents like Jacob Rasnick has an idea why. “Whenever we go tarpon fishing too, there’s always sharks hitting the tarpon,” he says. “You see them getting ripped in half. It’s pretty cool.”

Dr. Robert Hueter, who is the senior scientist at Sarasota’s Mote Marine Lab, contributed to the USA article and confirms the bull and hammerhead sharks are attracted to tarpon.

  • Gasparilla Island State Park, Boca Grande, Fla.
  • Delray Beach and Boca Raton, Fla.
  • Little Ship Cay, Exumas, Bahamas
  • Sebastian Inlet State Park, Fla.
  • Nauset Beach, Coast Guard Beach and Race Point Beach, Cape Cod, Mass.
