TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)– The winter blast is creating a travel nightmare across the country and right here in Tampa.
As of Saturday morning, more than 7,000 flights nationwide were cancelled due to blizzard-like conditions across the East Coast. Nervously checking her flight status and texting family members, Terry Faruzzi hopes she makes it back to Pittsburgh by Saturday night.RELATED: What to do if your flight is canceled due to weather
“We are checked out of our hotel room, and right now, our plane says it is on time so we are going to keep our fingers crossed! If I have to, I will pull out my rosary beads,” said Faruzzi.
The wet, wild and wicked weather pounding the East Coast is rearing its ugly head right here in Florida, cancelling flights and stranding travelers. On Saturday, Tampa International Airport listed cancelled and delayed flights to New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Charlotte and even Denver and Orlando.RELATED: Check airport flight delays
From sleeping to shopping, everyone had their own way of dealing with the delays and cancellations.
“We do yoga poses and breathing exercises altogether. We did the cat stretch and that kept me calm!” said Regina Riley, who was traveling home to Albany.
Forecasters predict travel won’t be back to normal until Sunday afternoon.
