COCONUT GROVE, Fla. (WFLA/WTVJ) – Police are investigating after a man was caught on camera stealing a peacock from a home in Coconut Grove.

The man tried to snatch several peacocks from the home.

The bird bandit drove his pickup truck down a road near the home and then parked.

In the surveillance video, he’s seen trying to grab the peacocks on the driveway and on the front porch, but they fly away.

Moments later, the bandit is seen sprinting down the street with a peacock in hand and an angry flock of birds go after him.

Resident Virginia Jasper said she realized something happened when she found a bunch of feathers outside of her home.

“They had blood and flesh still,” she said.

Although most residents of the neighborhood don’t agree with the actions of the man, many do believe there is a big peacock problem and consider them a nuisance.

“Eighty percent of the neighborhood are not enamored by the peacocks,” said resident Rick Ciravolo.

They make a lot of noise especially in the mating season.”
