WACO, Texas (WFLA) – Several new billboards that went up near Texas roadways have raised a few eyebrows this week.

KCEN reported, the ex-gay advocacy group has put up two billboards in Waco promoting therapy for sexual orientation. The group is called Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays.

This non-profit volunteer association describes themselves as a support group for people who are working to overcome same-sex attractions, according to KCEN.

The members of the local LGBT community say such a therapy can be harmful while the supporters of it say there is no proof of harm of the efforts to change sexual orientation.

“There is no proof of harm,” a Reparative Therapist David H. Pickup told KCEN. “In fact, if people will just look for themselves – they don’t have to believe me – they can go to page 82 and 83 on the American Psychological Association’s report on sexual orientation change efforts, and in their conclusions on those pages, they say there is no proof of harm of these efforts.”

Rev. Charley Garrison with Central Texas Metropolitan Church says the billboards go against the diversity in the community and plans to raise money to host a Pride celebration in the city in 2017.
