HOUSTON, Texas (KLFY) — A Coast Guard inspection of shipping containers in Texas turned up some unusual cargo on Wednesday.

According to a Facebook post by U.S. Coast Guard Heartland, a team of marine inspectors from Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston was busy randomly selecting shipping containers for inspection. Suddenly, they heard barking and scratching coming from one of the containers in a stack. When they lowered the container and opened the door, a dog popped out.

The rescuers said the dog was trapped in the container for at least a week and was tired, hungry and very happy to see her rescuers. The Coast Guard members gave her water and brought her to a local animal shelter for further care. At last report, Connie the Container Dog was safe and sound.

Anyone interested in adopting Connie can visit the Pasadena, Texas Animal Shelter and fill out an application using Animal ID 168752.
