TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — With temperatures dropping in the Sunshine State, manatees are gathering in large numbers to cope with the cold.
The Save The Manatee Club, which monitors the gentle animals at Blue Spring State Park, said Sunday morning was the coldest of the season, with the river temperature measuring at about 58.
Sunday, park staff counted about 932 manatees from the boardwalk, but a later count established that there 679 manatees visible in the water.
The Save the Manatee Club said its adoptee manatees Aqua , Paddy Doyle, Nick, Doc, Lily, Floyd, Una, and Howie were in the water.
“There is a very good chance that many more were in, huddled together so we were unable to identify them,”
