Advisory issued for Tampa Bay area beach

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) – Officials put an advisory into effect for a Pasco County beach. The advisory is based on a Monday sample taken from Robert J. Strickland Beach.

“The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County conducts saltwater beach testing through the Healthy Beaches Monitoring Program. The water samples are being analyzed for enterococci enteric bacteria that normally inhabit the intestinal tract of humans and animals, and which may cause human disease, infections, or rashes,” officials said. “The presence of enteric bacteria is an indication of fecal pollution, which may come from storm water runoff, pets and wildlife, and human sewage.”

The beach will be tested again Aug. 29.
