MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (WFLA/CNN) – Saturday is International Red Panda Day and in timely fashion, the Milwaukee County Zoo is announcing its newest addition.
A baby red panda was born there on June 6.
The adorable female cub was just six ounces at birthday and now weighs about five pounds.
These animals are endangered, making every birth cause for celebration.
These guys aren’t closely related to giant bears and even though the mother’s tail has rings like a raccoon, that’s not quite right either.
Red pandas are actually their own unique animal family.
The cub doesn’t have a name yet, but zoo officials promise to name her soon.
She will make her public debut at the zoo in a few weeks.
