PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) – A 9-year-old girl is dead after an ATV crash in Plant City.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. Saturday on Varn Road in Plant City. A spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says an 11-year-old girl was riding a Can-Am Commander with the 9-year-old. The vehicle is similar to a dune buggy with two bucket seats.
Deputies say the 11-year-old tried to turn the ATV around but lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. Neither girl was wearing a seat belt.
The 11-year-old was able to climb out from under the vehicle but deputies say the 9-year-old was ejected.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded and took both girls to South Florida Baptist Hospital where the 9-year-old was pronounced deceased. The driver suffered minor injuries.
