HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Rest assured, Hillsborough County’s supervisor of elections insists election fraud is literally nonexistent.

Marina Agosto, 83 years old, is not a believer. She discovered an organization called Mi Familia Vota submitted a voter registration application for her. When Agosto found she was listed as a Democrat, not a Republican, she demanded an explanation.

“The supervisor came and said, ‘No, you signed this application.’ I said, ‘No, I not. Not me; I didn’t sign this,'” Agosto said.

Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer said Agosto’s voter application is the only one of more than 50,000 that raised questions. But has Latimer’s office looked for any problem applications?

“Well when we’re getting them back from the state; they’re verified,” Latimer said.

The supervisor relies on the state Division of Elections to verify the authenticity of voter registration applications. It was the state that verified the application, which Agosto calls a phony.

“We contacted Mi Familia to tell them that this lady said that she did not sign this and that you were involved in this investigation. And we wanted to let them know in case they did have an issue with one of their canvassers,” Latimer told 8 On Your Side.

Following that meeting between the supervisor of elections and Mi Familia, the organization’s Executive Director Ben Monterroso confirmed the canvasser who submitted Agosto’s application no longer works for Mi Familia.

News Channel 8 asked whether the supervisor of elections looked at the 200 other applications submitted by the canvasser in question. “We don’t know what those 200 are. There’s no information as to who the individual canvasser is on that application. Only the identification number of the third-party organization,” Latimer said.

8 On Your Side asked if his office relies on Mi Familia to tell them whether the applications are legitimate. “Or the state. If the state’s matching those and they’re coming back matched, then those people are eligible.” Latimer said.If you have something that you think needs to be investigated call our 8 On Your Side Helpline at 1 800 338-0808.8 ON YOUR SIDE INVESTIGATES: Riverview man claims his family members are planning to attempt voter fraud
