NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) – Authorities are investigating a suspected drowning of a 2-year-old boy in New Port Richey.

Deputies with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office were called to Indian Mound Drive at 7:10 p.m. Monday for the drowning. According to deputies, the boy’s grandfather was in the bathroom when the toddler got out of the house. He found the child floating in the backyard pool.

Deputies performed CPR on the child until Pasco County Fire Rescue arrived. The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The case remains under investigation.
