ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The Woodson African American Museum of Florida is the current home of the “Resilience & Revolution: An Immersion of Black Americana” exhibit.
The collection of posters, figurines and other post-Civil War artifacts co-curated by The Montague Collection and Dr. Cody Clark paint a vivid picture of how African Americans were once viewed.
“We see how they have been used to hurt and to execute propaganda of Black Americans,” said Manager of Education, Outreach and Program Design Patrick Arthur Jackson. “But what we can do is reclaim these stereotypes and see the power in them.”
A closing reception for the exhibit is scheduled at the museum on Feb. 29 at 6 p.m.
You can learn more about the museum by watching WFLA’s special Black History Month presentation, “Rooted in Progress,” which airs Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. on News Channel 8, and again on Feb. 25 at 11 p.m. on The CW Tampa Bay.
