“Hippity Hop Bunny” by Lorie Gomon with Market516.com

Supplies:

  • Board 1” x 6” x  36” (I use common pine or fence board that I cut to size)
  • Dixie Belle Chalk/Mineral paint – colors:  Fluff, Soft Pink, Midnight Sky (black)
  • Burlap for ears
  • (2) 12” or longer pipe cleaners
  • (2) pieces of ribbon cut into 8” pieces
  • 4-5 strands of raffia
  • 12” x 24” piece of Burlap (for bag)
  • Tag or tag chalkboard with paint pen
  • White and black paint markers
  • Decorative flowers/greenery, raffia, Easter/Spring material cut into 24” strips or ribbon of choice
  • E6000 clear glue or hot glue gun
  • Staple gun, E6000 glue or hot glue to attach burlap
  • (2) pieces of tissue or newspaper

Steps:

  • Cut your board to size. If you purchase your wood from Lowes or Home Depot they will cut it to size for you.
  • Cut out ears using the burlap, you can make as big as you’d like, mine are about 8” long.
  • Lay (1) pipe cleaner on each of the back of the ears and use E6000 glue to attach. Use a disposable glove and smear the glue under and over the pipe cleaner. Set aside to dry.
  • Once the glue is dry, turn over and paint the ears with the Soft Pink colored paint. Let dry.
  • Bag:  Cut a 12” x 24” piece of burlap.
  • Tag:  use a paint pen or chalk marker to write a message that will be attached (Happy Easter or Welcome Spring is most common or you can put your family name or whatever you would like).
  • Paint all sides of wood with (2) thin coats of FLUFF (white) paint, allowing to dry completely in between coats. The paint dries quickly; approximately 10-15 minutes.
  • While your wood is drying feel free to visit our website at: www.market516.com or check us on FB or IG market516 🙂
  • Once the board is completely dry, it’s time to assemble your Bunny!

Assembly:

You’re going to work your way from the bottom up, this way you can line everything up proportionally.

  • Lay burlap long ways at bottom of board and equally bring it up in front & back so it measures about the same on both sides. Fold sides over to back and staple or glue to board. If you use glue you will have to secure it while it sets. I personally use a staple gun, but hot glue works and will set up fast just watch your fingers so you don’t burn yourself!
  • Next, stuff the burlap bag with tissue paper and tie the jute around to finish off the bag. Add your silk flowers/greenery to the bag and add any embellishments.
  • Attach your cute chalkboard tag.
  • Next you’re going to tie a nice bow around the center of the board using about a 4” wide x 20” strip of material or ribbon.
  • FACE:  For the face I use a pen to draw out the eyes and then I color them in with a black paint pen. I do the same for the whiskers and I use the soft pink paint for the nose.  Let dry.
  • Next, line the ears up so they are covering the top of the board. Bring both pipe cleaner ends together and staple.
  • Lay your strand of raffia (my favorite thing!) in a vertical direction and staple.
  • Next, layer your ribbon across and place in the center over the raffia. Staple in a horizontal direction.
  • Tie the raffia across the ribbon and straighten the bow as needed. You can see it coming together now right? 😊
  • Fluff out the raffia and trim as you’d like. Same with ribbon, trim if needed.
  • Lastly, make sure you sign date the back! You created this cutie, you need to autograph him/her! Feel free to put the date too so you’ll remember in years to come.

Wa-la! You’re done! Your Bunny is ready to display anywhere you’d like!  I have mine on my front porch.  You can attach a saw tooth hanger on the back and hang too!
