The neighborhood that housed ten percent of the African Americans in Tampa was once called Dobyville. That same area today is the west side of the popular destination, Hyde Park. A Black civic leader named Richard C. Doby lived in the area and donated real estate for the community, hence the name Dobyville became well known.

Farron Hipp spoke with people who called Dobyville home decades ago. She and Maggie reflected on stories shared about Dobyville and introduce other locations in Tampa Bay that have exhibits celebrating Black history.
