TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Dozens of flights in and out of Tampa were canceled on Thursday as airlines continue to grapple with staffing shortages and winter weather.
Around 5:50 a.m., The Tampa International website showed 45 flights in and out of Tampa International Airport were canceled on Friday, and the number could rise. Eight flights have been delayed.
The travel disruptions come while a number of states are under winter weather advisories and airlines deal with crew shortages due to COVID-19.
“I have been on the phone for 2 hours and 29 minutes, just waiting for them to reschedule my flight,” said Harriet Brouillette.
Brouillette found out her flight home to Alaska was canceled after she arrived at TPA.
“I have the Alaska app on my phone and it didn’t give me any notice. It told me to check in this morning when I got up, and when I got here I tried to print my ticket and it wouldn’t print my ticket, so I went to the counter and they said oh your flights canceled,” Brouillette said.
Brouillette started traveling the day after Christmas, and has dealt with several cancelled flights. She missed her nieces wedding, and instead, spent several days in airports.
“I’m used to it. I’ve been eating horrible food and sleeping in awkward positions, so it doesn’t even bother me anymore,” she said.
