PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Seniors in Pinellas County will have to wait a little longer to get vaccinated.

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County announced it will be closing its reservation system until the county gets more vaccine doses. The county won’t be taking appointments until further notice.

“Once additional doses of vaccine are received, we will open the reservation system to the public again,” the department said in a press release.

The county’s vaccine rollout got off to a rough start this week as seniors rushed to get vaccinated, overwhelming the county’s registration website and phone lines. Several viewers told 8 On Your Side they’ve spent hours trying to get an appointment to no avail.

The health department suspended its website Monday evening and said it was working to resolve the issue. By Tuesday, the health department had set up new phone lines for scheduling appointments. However, viewers who called the numbers said an answering machine told them it was a non-working number.

The county plans to begin vaccinating those 65 and older starting Tuesday. Those who successfully registered online Monday will have their appointments honored.
