HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Lutz Sunday morning, deputies say.
The crash occurred near Lutz Lake Fern Road at Apian Way around 9:15 a.m.
According to an incident report, 24-year-old Erica Kristen Rodriguez of Wesley Chapel was traveling eastbound with a group of riders.
She was following a grey 2017 Toyota Corolla 4-door driven by 39-year-old Michel Ghobrial. Investigators said Ghobrial was taking his family to church, but he turned back because they had forgotten something at home.
Witnesses saw Rodriguez enter the westbound lane, while still traveling eastbound and try to pass traffic in a no passing zone. She ended up hitting the driverside of the Toyota and suffered critical injuries as a result of the impact.
Rodriguez was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa where she was pronounced dead.
No one in the Toyota was injured.
No charges are pending, and no further information is available at this time.
