Hernando school officials say the latest lockdown has been lifted at Central High School in Brooksville.
Hernando deputies have responded to four bomb threats at the school this week. The two most recent bomb threats happened just hours apart on Wednesday.
The latest bomb threat was called into 911 just before 10:45 a.m. and put Central High School and Endeavor on lockdown.
Central High School is located at 14075 Ken Austin Parkway.
Students and staff sheltered in place while law enforcement and school administrators swept the building. The “all clear” was given just before 12:30 p.m.
According to Hernando school officials, the lockdown was lifted but students and staff remained on a modified “shelter in place” plan. Law enforcement stayed on campus.
“There’s just absolutely no reason for it. It’s not cool, it’s not funny. Frankly, it’s downright stupid,” said Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis.
Nienhuis says someone has been calling 911 to make the threats. He also says detectives have good leads in the investigation.
That latest bomb threat came just about an hour after deputies gave the school an “all clear” after investigating a different threat that was called in around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Students and staff were evacuated to the football field after that threat so deputies could investigate. They eventually determined there was no danger, so students and staff were allowed back into the school, according to a Hernando County Schools spokesperson.
Schools superintendent Dr. Lori Romano says absences that took place Monday through Wednesday will be excused for students at Central High School as well as Pine Grove and West Hernando.
The sheriff’s office said it is working diligently to ensure the safety of all students, teachers and staff at the high school.
