The smell of gasoline led investigators to a “grow boat” in Sanibel Island.

The Sanibel Island Police Department was called to a home after a neighbor smelled gasoline coming from a houseboat docked two doors down.

But when police went to investigate, they smelled something else—marijuana.

More than 25 marijuana plants, drug paraphernalia and Xanax pills were confiscated from the boat and police arrested 34-year-old Erik James Brown.

Brown is being held at the Lee County Jail where he faces charges of marijuana trafficking in excess of 25 pounds.
