ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) — SeaWorld released a blog post on Saturday which spoke about the injury sustained to one of its orca whales, Katina.

The company said Katina, the matriarch of the orca pod at SeaWorld Orlando, was injured on March 17 due to interactions with other whales in her pod.

Katina’s injure is located at the base of her dorsal fine, officials said.

According to SeaWorld, veterinary and animal care teams have been taking care and treating her wounds with cold-laser therapy and honey treatments.

They said her behavior is already back to normal, though they will continue to watch over her as she heals.

In their blog post, SeaWorld said this type of interaction between Killer whales is a natural behavior because they are social and hierarchal species.

For now, Katina has been placed in a seperate pool with her daughter Nalani and her son Makaio so she can rest and begin healing.
