Subway is closing more stores in the United States while expanding internationally.

The chain says it will shut down about 500 stores in the US this year, after hundreds of closures over the past two years.

Subway currently has around 2,600 locations in the US.

Due to competition from other fast food options and newer chains, Subway’s sales dropped 4.4 percent in 2017.

Subway is trying to bounce back by launching a new loyalty program, remodeling stores and adding touch-screen kiosks for ordering.

The chain plans to add more than 1,000 stores in locations like Britain, Germany and Asia.
