Bobby Joe Long is continuing to fight for his life as the clock counts down to his execution.

Yesterday in court, the attorney of convicted serial killer Bobby Joe Long's argued in court over which witnesses should be allowed to testify about Long's medical condition and the impacts of lethal injection.

Today Long appeared at his evidentiary hearing to appeal for a stay of execution, where he hoped a judge would issue a temporary order stopping authorities from executing him until legal issues involving his name and medical history are resolved.

But how many appeals are requested by death row inmates?

According to the U.S. Justive Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics most recent data available, Florida has the most appeals requested by inmates on death row out of all states that still carry out the death penalty.

Of Florida's 342 inmates currently on death row, only about 15 percent will appeal their sentences for various reasons.
