We’re hearing more about the moments leading up to a shooting in Fort Meade that left one man dead and two others injured earlier this week.
On Thursday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office released a 911 call made from the residence where 22-year-old Teconsa Tyre McDonald was killed and Calvin Johnson, 30, and Edward Burgess, 18, were critically injured on Monday.
The recording is, for the most part, unintelligible, but people can be heard in the background cursing and screaming. Deputies said Johnson can be heard accusing 48-year-old Charles Peddycoart and a woman of taking his $1,500 pit bull dog, named Princess. The call ends with the sounds of the gunshots.
Deputies said Johnson and the woman had reportedly walked to a nearby Dollar General store earlier in the day and Princess followed them, but the dog later went missing.
Hours later, the three men showed up to Peddycoart’s home to confront him. When the argument escalated, Peddycoart, in fear for his safety, shot the three men, killing McDonald and injuring Johnson and Burgess.
Investigators later learned a 15-year-old boy found the dog outside of the store and took him to his house, thinking it was a stray. The dog is now in the care of Animal Control while its owner is in the hospital.
At this time, detectives believe Peddycoart acted in self-defense. It’s unclear if any charges will be filed.
