A police officer in New Jersey likely saved a man’s life when he ran 200 yards to let him know a train was coming his way.
Body camera video shows a man on train tracks, seemingly unaware that a fast-moving train was barrelling toward him.
Perth Amboy Officer Kyle Savoia’s body camera shakes as he sprints towards the man, waving his arms and yelling to try and get his attention.
“Hey, bud! Hey, move! Hey bud, move! Stop the train!” he yells. “Buddy, move! Move! Move! Move! Move!”
The video shows the man getting off the tracks at the last second as the train slows to a stop, right as the officer reaches them.
Officer Savoia catches his breath and lets someone know on his radio that the train stopped before checking on the man.
“Sit down, are you okay?” he asks.
The man who was saved then gets emotional as he thanks the officer.
“Where’d you come from?” he asks. “Thank you. Oh my God, thank you so much.”
Officer Savoia says it’s all just part of the job for him.
“The job means everything. You come out here, you make a difference in everybody’s life no matter what – saving them, helping them, helping them cross the street,” he said. “It just makes you feel warm in the heart and good just to help somebody. And even to save somebody’s life is even better.”
