A former Tampa firefighter is accused of sending child porn to an undercover detective.

Deputies said Jason Luna, 40, was arrested for possessing child pornography and booked into the Pasco County Jail Thursday.

According to an arrest affidavit, an investigator was conducting an investigation in April on a peer-to-peer sharing network that some people would use to share and exchange child pornography.

The detective obtained a number of files that were later identified as child pornography and traced back to Luna’s IP address.

From there, a subpoena to Frontier Communication yielded his real name and address.

While executing a search warrant, deputies said they confiscated several computers and electronic devices from Luna’s home.

Forensic examinations were conducted and found that Luna knowingly possessed visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

“This man was arrested for not only possessing child pornography but viewing it on his computer. And we’re talking about images of children between the ages of 3 and 11-years-old,” Pasco Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Melanie Snow said.

He also had multiple videos of bestiality with horses and dogs.

“It’s bad enough to see cases like this just from a regular citizen but to find that it’s someone that we as a county, or as a society, put our trust in to protect our children and protect our families, certainly makes it even more gut wrenching,” Snow said.

Neighbor Renee Teschra was in shock.

“You got people serving our community and you’re supposed to trust them, yet you’re looking at child pornography, it’s sickening,” she said.

According to deputies, Luna admitted to using the peer-to-peer software and said he opened the files, but deleted them.

He now faces ten counts of possession of child pornography, a felony, and remains in the Pasco County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

The Tampa Fire Department released the following statement regarding his arrest:

Jason Luna was an employee of Tampa Fire Rescue for 15 years until his resignation on July 19. He did not state a reason for his resignation. Since that time he has been arrested by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. Any inquiries regarding criminal activity should be directed to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
