Two Tampa police officers are in the hospital after their car crashed into a tree at East Martin Luther King Boulevard and Suwannee Avenue. A bicyclist was also injured.
Police say the officers were responding to an emergency call. The officer who was driving swerved to avoid traffic entering his lane and hit a tree near East Martin Luther King Boulevard and North Suwannee Avenue.
The officer and a reserve officer passenger were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
A bicyclist traveling eastbound on East Martin Luther King Boulevard was also struck as the result of the crash and was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Tampa police are in contact with the driver of the second vehicle involved and the investigation involving that driver is ongoing.
East Martin Luther King Boulevard from East Central Avenue to North Florida Avenue is back open as of 3:30 a.m.
