The woman seen leaving a young child on the doorstep of a stranger’s home in a viral video says the entire ordeal was a misunderstanding and is taking the child’s mother to task.
According to KTRK, Keairra Woods was watching the 2-year-old boy as a favor for her best friend’s aunt. The video, recorded by a Ring doorbell, shows Woods dropping the boy off at a home and waiting only eight seconds before running to her car. It turns out, she dropped the child off at the wrong home, instead of the child’s father’s home, which was right next door.
Woods told KTRK the boy’s mother asked her to drop him off at his father’s because the boy’s stepmother had a restraining order against the mother. She said having never been to the home or met the father and stepmother, she was relying on directions from the boy’s mother and her GPS to get her to the right home.
“I followed the GPS,” Woods said. “Mind you, I’m still on the phone with her [the mother], so by the time I get to the house, I say, ‘Well, I just pulled up to the house.’ She said, ‘Okay, get out of the car, get his bag and go to the door.’”
Woods said she described the cars in front of the home to the boy’s mother, so the mother should’ve known it was the wrong home and should have said something then.
“Okay, so I ring the doorbell. The lady walks like halfway to the door. That’s when I took off running,” Woods said. “And the only reason I took off running was because it was chilly outside and I didn’t have no sweater on, as you can see in the video.”
Woods told KTRK she also left the child alone because she was trying to avoid any possible confrontation with the woman coming to the door, who she thought was the boy’s stepmother.
