Two Polk County women can add something pretty cool to their resume, being featured on a cereal box for the world to see.

The Family Literacy Academy recommended the two women for a national literacy campaign co-sponsored by Dollar General and Kellogg’s cereal.

The companies were looking for literacy stories to promote on Kellogg’s cereal boxes sold exclusively at Dollar General. .

The two women from Polk County featured are Aide Montufar and a Polk County teacher named Chasity. Both have similar stories of overcoming the odds to get an education with help from the literacy academy.

Montufar credits the organization with helping her with transportation and child care while she worked to earn her GED. She is now a teacher’s aide at Shelley S. Boone Middle School in Haines City and working towards her bachelor’s degree.

“I cried,” Montufar said. “Just to see I did it because I had support from the program and support from my husband. It was just emotional.”

“I think she exudes calmness with her students and she lets them know anything is possible,” said Boone Middle School Principal Sharon Chipman.

A total of three stories were selected nationwide, and two were from Polk County.
