A 15-year-old boy was struck Friday morning while crossing a busy Sarasota road, officials said.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Gantt Road, south of Cedar Pointe Blvd. at about 7 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the boy was crossing the roadway and walked into the path of a 2017 Lincoln Continental driven by 92-year-old Robert Gerald Lane of Sarasota. 

The teen was struck and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, but his current condition was not disclosed. 

The driver was not injured. 

The boy was cited for failing to yield to traffic, according to the report.
