TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – After four decades in the business, 8 On Your Side’s Mark Douglas has decided to retire.

That’s going to make a lot of shady individuals breathe a sigh of relief!

Mark’s journalism career began in 1976 after his graduation from Florida State University with a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication. He earned a Masters Degree from the University of Missouri, School of Journalism four years later.

Mark has enjoyed a 42 year long career of award winning journalism and has been holding the powerful accountable here at WFLA for 23 years.

Throughout his career, Mark has always been fair with a knack for tracking down people suspected of wrong-doing.

Throughout the years, his tenacious investigations have triggered judicial reforms, revealed government waste and exposed consumer fraud.

His peers have recognized Mark’s work with numerous awards including a 2012 Emmy, two Emmy awards in 2018 and publication in professional journals for ethics and investigative journalism.

He has written more than 350 newspaper stories for the Tampa Tribune where a number of his still photos have also appeared.

While he’s accomplished so much in front of the camera, in retirement, there’s much left to do away from it.

Mark is a licensed private pilot, an accomplished sailor and a respected adjunct writing instructor at the University of Tampa.

All of us here at News Channel 8 are going to miss Mark and his tireless pursuit of journalism excellence.
