A young instructor at Cypress Creek Elementary School in Ruskin has been arrested for putting a plastic bag on a child’s head, deputies say.
Erica Estrella Berrios, 19, is a H.O.S.T. instructor at the school. According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office report, she chased a 10-year-old student at the school and placed a plastic grocery bag on the student’s head.
Deputies said, the victim couldn’t breathe for about 30 seconds and had to rip a hole in the bag to get air. The victim fell on the ground with Berrios still holding the bag.
The victim identified Berrios, the victim’s H.O.S.T. teacher, and she apologized saying they were just playing around, deputies said.
Berrios was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse.
