BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) – A Bradenton man died Wednesday morning after driving his wheelchair into a swimming pool.
At 11:45 a.m., Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at 9315 19th Dr. NW in Bradenton. Douglas Lesch, 68, was discovered in the pool by his wife. Deputies say Lesch drove his electric wheelchair into the swimming pool. His wife discovered him in the pool and was able to move him to the steps.
Emergency crews also responded, however Lesch died at the scene. Lesch was confined to a wheelchair because of medical conditions. The sheriff’s office said it is not known what caused Lesch to drive his wheelchair into the pool.
