TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a hit-and-run driver who abandoned a teenager after he hit her in a cross walk.

Troopers said at 7:05 a.m. Thursday, a 17-year-old girl from Wesley Chapel was riding an electric scooter across Tonka Terrace when she was hit by a grey sedan.

According to the FHP, the driver, described “as a white male, aged 20-30, with semi-long shaggy brown hair and brown eyes,” ran a stop sign when he struck the teen.

Troopers said after the collision, the man asked the girl, who broke her arm, if she was hurt before speeding off on Oldswoods Avenue. The girl was later taken to a local hospital for her arm injury.

The FHP release described the suspect’s vehicle as an older car that should have damage on the front.
