TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — As fire crews were responding to a submerged vehicle in a Florida pond, a nearly 10-foot gator decided to join the rescue team.

Martin County Fire Rescue said the 9-foot, 6-inch alligator swam over to the dive team after crews had just entered the water to secure the car to be removed.

Thankfully, one of the fire rescue retirees runs a gator trapping business and was able to capture the gator and tape it up, officials said.

The alligator was eventually removed and relocated.

The dive team was able to continue their duties and remove the sunken car, which was unoccupied. The local sheriff’s office said the submerged vehicle was a stolen car out of St. Lucie County.
