TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The famous mask worn by Jason Kelce at the Super Bowl afterparty is wanted back in the hands of one family in Dallas.
Following the Chief’s victory at the Super Bowl, videos began circulating of Jason Kelce partying in the mask while celebrating his brother, Travis Kelce, and his team’s win Sunday night.
In the Kelce Brother’s podcast “New Heights,” Jason said he found the mask on the dance floor at a Super Bowl after-party.
“You see a Luchador mask, you don’t ask questions. You just put that thing on baby,” Jason said in the podcast. “Sorry to whoever I stole that from.”
One family saw those videos, and recognized the mask that belonged to their 8th-grade son, who is a big Chief’s fan, NBC affiliate KXAS said.
“I gave him my mask and then he dropped it and then picked it back up. Then I got a picture with him wearing it and then I just hung out next to them for five to ten minutes, they were dancing and everything,” the son, Elijah Smith told KXAS.
Smith said he saw Jason in videos wearing his lucky mask and wanted it returned as a good luck charm for the Chiefs.
“The only thing is, Jason if you’re listening, we just need the mask back before the season starts. Because it’s a lucky mask, and so the Chiefs need the luck. I’m sorry we’re not Eagles fans,” a member of the Smith family told KXAS.
In a tweet posted Friday morning, Kelce said “Operation ‘Get Elijah His Mask Back’ is underway! I appreciate everyone bringing this to my attention, and look forward to uniting Elijah with his mask once again.”
The family told KXAS that the mask has been to four Super Bowl games, and it’s even signed by Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie.
“Your mask indeed brings great fortune, I owe you big time, sorry it was commandeered,” Kelce added.
The Smith family is hopeful that Kelce will return the mask signed.
