TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A professional women’s soccer team is making its way to Tampa and plans to make $6 million worth of upgrades to Riverfront Stadium.

The stadium belongs to Blake W. High School, but school leaders have agreed to temporarily share the field with the Tampa Bay Sun Football Club.

They will both enjoy the new athletic facilities that come with the upgrades.

The stadium’s transformation will feature more than 5,000 seats, FIFA-approved turf, and the installation of a new advanced scoreboard.

Tampa Bay Sun FC President Christina Unkel said the team is working hard to make Riverfront Stadium another gem of Tampa Bay.

“From the gameday experiences, from the culinary to enrichment, to the entertainment and the arts we’re going to be tying everything related to sports,” Unkel said.

Upgrades are expected to be complete in August, just in time for the Suns’ first soccer season.
