SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) — An Amazon driver is accused of stealing a French Bulldog while he was delivering packages in Spring Hill, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said the dog’s owner let her French Bulldog, Kali, outside around 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 22. A short time later, the owner said she noticed Kali had escaped from the home’s fenced-in backyard.
A neighbor told the dog’s owner that he saw Kali walk up to a man who was wearing an Amazon uniform and had just delivered a package to a home on Copper Hill Drive.
The neighbor said he saw the man drive off with the dog soon after. Another neighbor told Kali’s owner that she saw the man pick up the dog and put her in the backseat of his car.
According to deputies, Kali’s owner contacted Amazon customer support to report the incident. An Amazon representative told the owner to report the incident to law enforcement officers.
Kali’s owner gave Hernando County deputies a photo and a detailed description of the dog, who she said is a year old and has a retail value of $4,000.
On Jan. 16, detectives identified the suspect as Reinier Revilla. When detectives went to Revilla’s Tampa home, he told them that he had taken the dog and that he still had her. Later that day, Kali was found at a nearby home and returned to her owner.
The next day, detectives said they obtained a warrant for Revilla’s arrest on a charge of grand theft.
Revilla turned himself in at the Hillsborough County Jail on Jan. 19, detectives said. He was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
