ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A renter said they are being forced to live in poor conditions at a St. Petersburg apartment complex.
Ring camera video taken outside of Alana Wright’s apartment at the Alta Mar Broadwater complex reveals a person yelling “oh my god you have a colony here.”
“They just started a couple of months ago, and it’s been bad with the rats,” Wright said. “It’s been literally out of my apartment, I have removed at least nine rats.”
Wright shared video with News Channel 8 on how bad the situation is Inside her home. She said the issue is getting worse.
“The smell is just — the rats smell, the urine, also feces and everything there,” Wright said. “Some of them are in my furniture and under my entertainment stand, in my bathroom, in every room.”
Wright said she reached out several times about the issue and has the work orders to prove it.
Management said she’s the problem.
The property management company said it can’t keep rats out unless residents do their part and keep the apartments clean.
The situation has become tense. In an email, management claims that a guest came into the leasing office with a dead rat and threw it at the leasing agent. Wright disputes the claim.
“I spoke to the manager in the office, and they won’t do anything about it,” Wright said.
A regional manager said pest control does stop by often.
News Channel 8 visited this same complex back in 2022 and a St. Peterburg city official said the complex was getting fined daily for trash piling up outside.
