State lawmakers and Hillsborough County school board members will meet Friday to discuss how to make the county’s schools safer.

New legislation requires officers at each school in wake of the Parkland shooting. Now, paying for those officers is proving to be an issue.

The Hillsborough County school district is the eighth largest in the country and has already received $10 million dollars from the state to beef up school security. Many improvements such as gate entries and cameras have been installed in the schools, but many want to see more done.

One area that still needs work, mental health funding but it’s unclear if there is money for that or not.

The meeting is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Friday at King High School.
