CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) – Amscot calls itself The Money Superstore so it’s not hard to blame Ian Hines for allegedly looking for a quick buck at the business.

A Clearwater police report spells out how officers say it went down. Hines and his girlfriend hopped into a United Cab for the ride to the store, police said, with the intention of cashing a check.

“‘Let me think. I can’t cash the check; let me rob the place.’ Well that didn’t work out too well,” Clearwater Police Department Spokesman Rob Shaw said.

Amscot rejected Hine’s check, so, Shaw said, Hines went back outside, scribbled a note, saying, “This is a stick up. Don’t try to ring or sound the alarm.”

“Let’s just say that he made things rather easy for us,” Shaw said.

Instead of complying with Hine’s alleged demand, the teller called 9-1-1.

Hines waited. “If you stick around long enough for us to get there, that’s also another good thing. However, in this case, he didn’t have to stick around long cuz we were there within a minute of the original call,” Shaw said.

The suspect was busted at the teller window.

At the address Hines gave police, News Channel 8 found his girlfriend, who didn’t give her name. She said she had no idea Hines was planning to rob the Amscot.

She looked dazed when News Channel 8 found her Wednesday.

Hines will get an unwelcome surprise if he bonds out of jail. His girlfriend piled his stuff on the porch as a heave-hoe for putting her through all this.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON RIGHT NOW:
